A man who partially blinded someone in a nightclub in Norwich has been jailed.

A 27-year-old who committed a serious assault in a Norwich nightclub which left a man partially sighted has been jailed for five years.

Joshua Patzelt, of Birkbeck Way, Thorpe St Andrew, appeared at Norwich Crown Court for sentencing on Friday 13 April after pleading guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The charge related to an incident which happened in the early hours of Saturday 10 September in Havana's on London Street.

The victim, a 28-year-old man, was on the dance floor when Patzelt hit him with a glass which caused serious injury to his eye.

After the attack Patzelt was detained by door staff and managed to break free and run from the scene, only to be detained by police on Queen Street moments later where he was arrested.

Welcoming the sentence, investigating officer PC Emma Beck, said: "This was a completely unprovoked attack which has had long-term consequences for the victim who has undergone several surgical procedures and has been left partially sighted.

"I hope the sentence demonstrates that violent behaviour in the night time economy will not be tolerated."
