Norwich: MP Attacks EDL March

Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North is attacking plans for march by the EDL in Norwich this Saturday.

She said: “I do not want to see the EDL on parade in our city.  I believe the EDL to be disreputable, divisive, harmful, and violent.  Hate-merchants like these have no place in Norwich or anywhere in Britain.  The Prime Minister has rightly described them as "sick".

“I strongly urge anyone in the city this Saturday to act in a peaceful and respectful manner.  I know the local police are prepared for Saturday’s demonstration and counter-demonstration and I encourage demonstrators, shoppers and business owners alike to follow the police instructions closely to stay safe.

“I am proud of this country’s legal freedoms and rights to take part in peaceful protest, but do not want to see them abused, and Norwich dragged down, this weekend.”
