Drivers between Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire suffered long delays and detours on Thursday 10 January 2013 after a fuel tanker overturned early in the morning.

A 12 mile stretch of the dual-carriageway was closed both ways after the crash near Bythorn just before 6.30am.

Because of the danger of a fuel leak, emergency services quickly put in place a long closure between Thrapston and Brampton Hut near Huntingdon. Drivers have faced diversions using the A605 to Peterborough and then down the A1M.

The eastbound carriageway reopened about 5pm.  The westbound carriageway reopened after that after the vehicle and a small amount of fuel was recovered.
