Police have raided two properties in Northamptonshire as part of an operation into human trafficking and benefit fraud.

Five properties in Leicestershire were also raided with a total of seven people being arrested.

They are now in police custody being questioned by National Crime Agency (NCA) and the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) investigators.

A small number of people were located at the premises and are currently being spoken to by specialist officers.

Detective Sergeant Steve Watkins, from Northamptonshire Police, said:

"The warrants executed today will help to safeguard and protect some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

"It sends out a clear message to all those who would exploit them that this form of modern day slavery will not be tolerated, and that there is no place safe in Northamptonshire for anyone involved in human trafficking."
