Advance Brighter Futures Wrexham

Advance Brighter Futures Wrexham is a mental health charity and provides services to hundreds of people in the county experiencing the effects of mental distress.

Their approach to personal recovery is not a medical treatment or therapy. It is the process of building a meaningful and satisfying life as defined by the individual experiencing long-term or intermittent mental health problems.

They run PAR – Promoting Awareness & Resilience for 16-20 year olds to learn how to manage anxiety, keep well and recognise unhelpful thinking.  PAR is a seven week programme in the style of guided self-help, with the aim of improving mental well-being.

The philosophy of Advance Brighter Futures is very much centred on improving quality of life.  A lot of the people who benefit are socially isolated and a huge improvement is made to their lives, sometimes the difference between life and death.  These interventions can, and have made an enormous difference to the opportunities on offer to an individual, across all aspects of their lives.

The charity is very hands-on and retains a lot of its service users as volunteers. Advance Brighter Futures values and utilises the diverse life experience, skills and time of its members, trustees, staff, and volunteers.  People who have experienced mental health problems are particularly valued as they usually have a wealth of personal knowledge, wisdom, empathy, extra reason for commitment and patience to connect, inspire, give hope and help others.
