Wrexham couple die in swollen river

Locals say the river has been the highest and strongest they've seen it for 15 years.

The body of Alicia Marie Williams, 25, was found by a dog walker on a gravel bank next to the River Clywedog near the Erddig Park early Wednesday evening.

Locals who knew Alicia, and saw that her dogs were running loose, knew that her partner David would also be near by, and alerted the emergency services.

The North East Wales Search and Rescue Team joined in the search, with David Christopher Platt, 25, being found further down the river at around midnight..

A witness told police that he had seen the couple walking with five dogs, who have now all been accounted for.  Chief Inspector Mark Pierce told Heart: "it's speculation to say whether or not the dogs have gone into the river and one or both of the couple have gone into save the dogs, we haven't got a witness to confirm that yet."
