Military families get day out

Families of servicemen and women from Oxfordshire fighting in Afghanistan have been given a special summer treat.

More than a hundred relatives got to go on a day out to the The Cotswold Wildlife Park near Burford on Monday 16 August 2010.  It was organised by Oxfordshire County Council's Chairman Hillary Hibbert-Biles and involved families of those serving at RAF Brize Norton and Abingdon's Dalton Barracks.

Councillor Biles said: "We all know about the amazing bravery, fortitude and total professionalism of our military personnel in Afghanistan.  What is sometimes forgotten is that while our service men and women are working hard for Queen and Country, their families are at home keenly awaiting news from their loved ones."

She added: "This event is in recognition and appreciation of the outstanding commitment to duties undertaken in Afghanistan and to the steadfastness of the families of those undertaking those duties.

"Oxfordshire is home to many service personnel and we at Oxfordshire County Council are delighted to be able to show our appreciation of serving troops and their families, in this small way."
