Teenager charged over footballer's death

A 19 year old man's been charged with murdering a 17 year old trainee Oxford United footballer, stabbed to death in an east London street.

Godwin Lawson had been in the capital visiting family and friends.  He died of a stab wound to the chest in a road called Amhurst Park, Hackney, in the early hours of Saturday 27 March 2010.

Moise Avorgah, 19, from Tottenham, north London, is also charged with the attempted murder of an 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old man.  He appeared at Brent Magistrates Court on Saturday 3 April and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday 7 April 2010.

Two other people were injured during the incident which led to Godwin's death.

Godwin was a member of Oxford United's football academy.  The first team wore black armbands in their game on Tuesday 30 March, away at Stevenage, as a mark of respect.

A minute's silence is due to be held before Oxford United's game at home to Salisbury on Easter Monday, 5 April.
