Peterborough: 1,000 Xmas Jobs

1,000 temporary jobs are coming to Peterborough for Christmas, as online retailer Amazon takes on thousands of temporary staff across the UK.

Amazon has told Heart it will hire more than 10,000 temporary employees across its' UK "fulfilment centres" during the busy Christmas period. 

In Peterborough, more than 1,000 seasonal employees will be recruited at the local distribution warehouse in Kingston Park in the south of the city.

The temporary workers, or "associates", will be recruited on temporary contracts to support the seasonal surge in demand in the run up to the festive season. 

On the company's busiest shopping day last Christmas, the firm say they saw customers order a total of 3 million items during one 24-hour period at a rate of 35 items every second.

In the last three years, thousands of UK employees initially on temporary contracts have moved into permanent roles.
