Police are investigating a knifepoint robbery at a bookmakers in Peterborough.

A man wearing a black motorcycle helmet went into the bookmakers, in Newark Avenue, at about 8.45pm yesterday (Sunday) before threatening a member of staff with a knife.

He demanded cash from the safe behind the counter before getting away.

The man is described as white, 6ft, slim and wearing a light-grey jumper. He left on a yellow motorcycle, described as a 'jump bike' with large wheels and yellow mud guards. He was also carrying a black rucksack.

No-one was injured.

Detective Sergeant Andy Tolley said: "I would urge anyone who was in the area and saw anyone acting suspiciously, or saw where the man went following the robbery, to call police.

"I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the yellow motorbike either before or after the incident."

Anyone with any information should call DS Tolley on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
