Cambridgeshire Police have started a murder investigation after an 86 year old woman was found dead at home in Wisbech.

Una Crown was found dead in her bungalow in Magazine Lane just after 11am on Sunday.

Police initially treated her death as unexplained, however a post mortem examination at Peterborough City Hospital last night (Tuesday) confirmed she died as a result of an assault.

Una was last seen alive at 11am on Friday (11 January).

Detective Chief Inspector Jon Hutchinson said: "Mrs Crown died as a result of a brutal assault in her own home.

Our investigation is still at a very early stage and we are trying to build up a picture of the events that lead to her death.

Her murder has obviously devastated her family and I would urge anyone with any information to call police.

She was last seen on Friday morning so I am keen to hear from anyone who who was in the area of Magazine Lane over the weekend and saw anything suspicious.

Any information, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, could provide significant in our investigation."

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Major Crime Unit on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
