Pool Dispute Link To Murder

22 September 2014, 19:59

A man who died after being found seriously injured in an Edinburgh street may have been attacked following an argument over a game of pool.

Thomas Lamb, 46, was found by residents in Restalrig Circus at about 1am on Saturday after police were called to a disturbance in the street.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but was later pronounced dead. Police have launched a murder inquiry.

Officers want to trace three men who were with him in the nearby Tor pub and who they believe followed him out into the street after a dispute by the pool table.

Forensic tests are being carried out on a pitchfork found at the scene, which may have been used in the attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Keith Hardie said: "We're satisfied there's been an incident in the pub in the area of the pool table, so that's something we're looking at and investigating.

"We have recovered a pitchfork from the scene. Whether or not that's involved in the attack on this individual it's too early to say."

Mr Lamb was a regular in the pub and a "fairly quiet individual who kept himself to himself" and was "not anybody who is on our radar or caused us any concern whatsoever", according to Mr Hardie.

He added: "The family are obviously traumatised because of the death of their son."

The three men are described as in their late teens to early 20s, between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 10ins, and wearing dark clothing.

Officers are examining CCTV and carrying out door-to-door patrols in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
