£15k Of Stock Stolen From Charity Shop

A Southampton charity shop's appealing for help to replace £15,000 worth of stock which was stolen by burglars.

The Oxfam Music store in East Street says the majority of their stock was stolen overnight between 14 and 15 August. It included rare records and computers, and they say it's left them with nothing to sell.

Hampshire Police say Oxfam rang just after 10am on Thursday 15 August to tell them they had a break-in overnight.

Entry was gained by forcing a rear fire door. An untidy search of ground and first floor was made.

Two computer towers, a stereo, a large number of collectable vinyl records, charity box money and money from staff lockers were all taken. Police are conducting CCTV and forensic enquiries in order to identify the people involved.

PC Chris Galpin said:

"This was a callous crime, as the store in question is a charity shop and the items stolen would have been donated by members of the public for a good cause.

"If anyone has any information please contact me at Southampton Central Police Station on 101."

It's the second time in three years the shop's been burgled, after thieves also took lots of stock in 2011.
