Controversial Hampshire Wind Farm Plans Rejected

Controversial plans for 14 wind turbines just outside Winchester have been rejected.

EDF Energy Renewables wanted to build the two mile square wind farm at Bullington Cross, just north of Winchester. The turbines would have been up to 126 metres tall on farmland near to the A34/A303 junction.

The site of the proposed wind farm crossed the boundaries of three local authorities - Winchester City Council, Test Valley Borough Council and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. EDF Energy had submitted a planning application to each of these authorities.

Councillors from across the three authorities voted yesterday (Monday 16 June) to turn the plans down.

The proposal was for 14 wind turbines and associated infrastructure distributed as follows:

Winchester City Council - seven turbines

Test Valley Borough Council - three turbines

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council - four turbines

The plans had been opposed by some local people, who are worried the turbines will be an eyesore.
