Cyclist Injured In New Forest Hit and Run

Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was injured during a collision on Burley Road, Brockenhurst, on Sunday, September 11.

Just after 2pm the cyclist was riding alone towards Brockenhurst in the South Weir area, and passed a vehicle heading in the opposite direction at a traffic calming pinch point.

The vehicle turned around and began travelling in the same direction as the cyclist, at which point the vehicle and the cyclist collided, knocking the rider from his bike. The car did not stop.

The 43-year-old cyclist sustained a broken collar bone and leg injuries as a result of the incident and was treated at Southampton General Hospital. He is now recovering at home.

The vehicle involved is described as a black hatchback, possibly with tinted rear windows.

The driver of the vehicle was a man, and it is believed there was a passenger in the car with him.

PC David Woolfrey said:

"We believe there was a female cyclist and some other vehicles in the immediate area when this incident happened and we'd like to speak to them. They may have seen the collision, or be able to identify the black vehicle involved."

Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or with any information to contact PC David Woolfrey at Lymington police station on 101 or call the Crimestoppers charity anonomously on 0800 555 111.
