Dog Attack In Southsea Park
Police are appealing for more information after a woman was injured by a dog in a park in Southsea.
A 59-year-old woman from Southsea was walking her dog in Bransbury Park when she noticed a man with a small, stocky black and white dog.
The dogs became involved in a fight, which both owners attempted to break up.
It's alleged the black and white dog then bit the 59-year-old woman, causing a finger injury. She received treatment at hospital.
The black and white dog and its owner then left the park. It's also alleged the owner was verbally abusive to the 59-year-old woman after the dispute, which took place between 3pm and 3..30pm on Friday, June 29, 2012.
The black and white dog's owner was described as:
> A white man
> Slim build
> 18 years old
> 5 ft 8 ins tall
> Short hair
> Wearing glasses
The dog was described as small and stocky, white with black markings. The owner is reported to have referred to the dog as 'Beyonce'.
Investigating officer PC Shane Lonergan said: "Although reports of this nature are thankfully uncommon in Bransbury Park, this was a distressing event for the woman and her dog.
"These events happened in the afternoon in a public area used by many people. It is likely that there were more witnesses who I would like to contact police with any information they may have.
"The injured woman has mentioned three young men, particularly one with blond hair who came to offer assistance, and who possibly knew the man and the dog involved.
"She is grateful for their help, and it would be useful to our investigation if these men came forward."
These men, other witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact Southsea police station by phoning 101. Mini-com users can phone 01962 875000. Information can be given anonymously by phoning the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
