Dog Rescued After Getting Stuck In Wall

Lexi, the eight-month-old cocker spaniel, has been rescued after getting her head stuck in a decorative wall.

The dog's owner, Vicky Lovelock, called for help yesterday after the dog put her head through the wall in Porchester, Hampshire, and she was unable to free her even after using baby oil.

Anton Phillips, from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service's animal rescue team, then came to the animal's aid.

Ms Lovelock said:

"I was walking Lexi and she was on the lead. She must have smelt or seen something which drew her attention enough to poke her head through a wall.

"Some of the local neighbours came out to help, and we rubbed baby oil on her neck to see if we could get Lexi out but she wouldn't budge, which is when I called for help.''

Animal rescue specialist Mr Phillips said:

"I gave advice to Vicky whilst en route to keep both Vicky and Lexi safe. It's important in this type of incident to keep the trapped animal as quiet as possible to give it the best possible chance.

"On arrival I asked Vicky to hold the dog firmly whilst I released Lexi by using a hammer and chisel, gently using the chisel to crack the wall. Lexi was released unharmed.''

Ms Lovelock added:

"I am so grateful to Anton and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service. He gave the right advice and put me at ease.

"Lexi is a very confident dog. As she's only eight months old, I'm sure this won't be the last time we get into trouble.''
