Police are trying to find out who strung a cable across a path near Fareham, which pulled an 6-year-old girl off her bike by her throat.
It happened at some time between 4.10pm and 4.55pm on Thursday 14 August at Wheatlands Park, Titchfield Common.
The 6-year-old victim was riding her bike along the path with her grandparents when she rode into a cycle brake cable that had been tied across the path. The cable caught her across her throat, pulling her from her bike.
She suffered bruising to her throat as a result.
PC Jim Heath, said:
“The cable was fixed deliberately to catch people using the path, and could have caused serious injury. I am very keen to trace those responsible to ensure there is no repeat incident, and to make them aware of how dangerous this could have been.
“I would like to appeal to anyone using the park who may have seen anyone fixing the cable in place or tampering with an abandoned purple and white child's BMX which has been left at the scene.
"In particular we would like to speak with two boys, aged around 15 or 16, who were sat in the nearby play park at the time of the incident, as they may have vital information.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Heath, at Park Gate police station by calling 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
