Goalline Technology Gets Go Ahead
Goalline technology approved by football bosses after one of the systems passed tests at Southampton's St. Mary's stadium.
After passing tests at Southampton's St. Mary's stadium - a type of goalline technology's got the go ahead.
The International Football Association board met to talk about Hawk-Eye and another system last night (Thursday 5th July).
It comes after tests at St. Mary's stadium in Southampton. In May, it was used there during the Hampshire FA Senior Cup Final. It was watched by 14 Hawkeye cameras, 7 around each goal. It works by sending an instant message to the referee's watch if the ball crosses the line.
The game between Eastleigh FC and AFC Totton was the first ever 'live' match with these conditions.
Hampshire FA Chief Executive Neil Cassar commented at the time: "We are delighted to be working with IFAB and FIFA on the testing of goal line technology and fully support the initiative."
Bosses now hope the technology could be introduced in the Premier League as soon as the beginning of next year.
