Hampshire Summer Project Aims To Cut Anti-Social Behaviour
A project aimed at keeping young people out of trouble during the summer holidays is getting underway in Hampshire.
Access All Areas gives 11-17-year-olds the chance to try things like quad biking, scuba diving, DJ-ing and even driving lessons.
Hampshire's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Simon Hayes has backed the scheme, saying last year it led to a 10% drop in anti-social behaviour in the area.
Police, Fire, youth services and many other local groups and partners are involved and each day there will be a barbecue, assault courses, laser quest games, henna tattoos, a pamper tent with hair chalking, braiding, nail painting and cake decorating.
Along with these there will be a variety of different activities at different locations like tchouk ball, BMX and skate jamming, t-shirt painting, rugby, boxing, face/body painting, clay pigeon shooting, sailing and a climbing wall.
Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Hayes said:
"Young people list boredom, peer pressure, anger and frustration as reasons why they're tempted to offend. Projects like this are good because they divert people away from those temptations.
"We know it works because last year when this project was run we saw a 10% reduction in anti-social behaviour across our communities."
