Officers investigating an incident where a 62-year-old woman was assaulted in Southampton are appealing for witnesses.

At around 10.15am on Monday, December 5, the woman came out of Southampton Library and turned left, heading towards the train station.

As she passed the hoardings that surround the building works next to the library, she stepped in to allow a man to pass. As he reached her he pushed her, knocking her to the ground. He then kicked her face before runningacross the park in the direction of Devonshire Road.

The woman was taken to Southampton General Hospital where she received treatment for a cut and swollen lip, and a broken wrist, which happened when she fell.

The man is described as:

PC Miles Wilson said, “This was an unprovoked attack on a woman who was minding her own business, and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened. The man ran across the park opposite the library, in thedirection of the Polygon area, and if anyone saw him we’d like to hear from them.”
