Train Driver Injured As Windscreen Is Smashed
A train driver has been injured when the windscreen was smashed by an object thrown from a bridge near Romsey.
It happened on Monday 20th May, and British Transport Police (BTP) is appealing for information about who was responsible.
Detective Constable Trevor Wilson, investigating the incident, said:
"The train, a Portsmouth Harbour to Cardiff service, was passing through East Grimstead towards Salisbury around 5.30pm when an object, thought to be a brick, was thrown at the windscreen, shattering the glass.
"The driver received cuts and bruises as a result of the incident, but fortunately his injuries are not thought to be serious."
It is thought the object was thrown from Grimstead Road bridge, close to the Holy Trinity Church. Officers attended the area after the incident was reported to police and carried out a search of the area but to no avail. Police are asking anyone who knows about the incident or who was in the area at the time to come forward.
DC Wilson continued:
"This was an incredibly irresponsible and dangerous act, which resulted in a train driver being injured.
"It is beyond belief that anyone could throw objects at moving trains and we need to trace those responsible before their actions result in serious harm to rail staff or passengers.
"If you were in the area at the time and saw anyone acting suspiciously, or know anything about the incident, then please get in touch as a matter of urgency."

A tracker device led to it being recovered in Totton - a man's been questioned.
Special constables will be trained in CPR, using oxygen and defibrillators so they can be first responders if they're closest.
