Sentencing for crash teen

A teenagers been sentenced to twelve years in a youth detention centre after killing a woman in a car crash...

Nineteen year old Luke Burdakay from Birkfield Drive in Ipswich, who was drunk and registered blind, killed twenty year old Laureen Hammond from Sutton in February when he lost control of the stolen car he was driving...

He was also sentenced to three years and four months detention for attempted robbery, which will run at the same time.

Laureen's family gave their reaction to the sentencing...

“Since the 3rd February 2011 our family has been turned upside down and we are distraught by our loss of Lollie. We know nothing will bring Lollie back, but we hope after today’s sentencing that Mr. Burdakay and anyone else who believes driving a vehicle illegally is acceptable are seriously mistaken.

“We as a family lost someone very special and the world lost a very caring young lady. No words can explain the way we feel. We have paid the ultimate sacrifice in losing Lollie through the actions of this young man, who thought that he wouldn’t harm anyone. How wrong he was.

“As a family we wish to thank the police, Crown Prosecution Service and the court staff for their continued help and support and to anyone else who, on that tragic night, tried to help Lollie. We thank you, knowing Lollie would have thanked you herself.”
