The 48th Fighter Wing came together on Friday afternoon to remember fellow emergency service workers.
Senior Airman Robert Anderson is from the fire department and is a first responder. He was 15 at the time and told Heart where he was when he heard about the planes hitting the World Trade Center.
During the event, members of the Liberty wing's fire department and security forces squadron conducted a formal retreat ceremony where they held prayers and lowered the flags at the base as a mark of respect.
