Stowmarket: Ex-Head Charged With Historic Sex Offences

A former headteacher of a school in Stowmarket has been charged with historic child sex offences at Oakwood School.

74-year-old Eric De Smith, of Danes Close, was arrested in March and has now been charged with gross indecency and indecent assault.

The allegations relate to reports of offences at the school between 1975 and 1999.

Suffolk Police have been investigating since 2011.

More than 100 people have been spoken to as part of the investigation.

Mr De Smith is due to appear in Bury St Edmunds Magistrates Court on Tuesday 1 October.
