Fatal crash closes A26

The road will stay shut south of Crowborough until tomorrow at the earliest.

Two cars collided head-on shortly after 10 o'clock near the Crow and Gate pub shortly after 10 o'clock yesterday morning. The driver of one of the cars died, two people in the other car were seriously injured.

Police say they are keen to speak to the driver of a black VW Golf they believe might have seen the accident. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sussex police on 0845 607099 and quote Operation Buckmore.

The road surface was badly damaged. East Sussex County Council are carrying out the repairs but the police have told Heart the work will not be completed until tomorrow at the earliest.

The A26 Uckfield Road is closed between Chillies Lane and Rocks Lane, Crowborough. Local residents are being allowed access but through traffic is being diverted via High Hurstwood.
