Railway Bridge Fall

A woman suffered serious head injuries when she fell on to the railway line at Hastings.

Police have told Heart a man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting her.

The woman was found on the line near the Linton Road railway bridge outside Hastings railway station about 4am Sunday morning. She has been transferred to Hurstwood Park hospital, Haywards Heath. The hospital specialises in treating head injuries.

The line between West St Leonards, Hastings and Ore has been closed. Southern Trains is running replacement buses.

A police spokesman said: "This investigation is at an early stage and we are trying to assess exactly what happened. We are asking passengers to be patient and to check with the train operator before making their journey. We cannot say when the stretch of line will be re-opened.

"We would ask anyone who was in the area of Linton Road railway bridge early this morning to contact the police on 0845 6070999 and quote Operation Bedworth."
