A woman who was reportedly killed in an act of cannibalism suffered serious face and neck injuries.
22-year-old Cerys Yemm was found dead in the Sirhowy Arms hostel in Argoed earlier this month.
Newport Coroner’s Court heard that Gwent Police had received an emergency call at around 1.23am on the 6th November, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detective Superintendent William Davies said:
“Upon arrival, officers found the body of a female on the floor of the hotel”
The only suspect in the investigation – Matthew Williams – died shortly after being tasered by police.
The 34-year-old had recently been released from prison.
DS Davies said a separate report on his death would be available in due course.
The hearing was told that a provisional pathology report found that shopworker Cerys Yemm died from a “sharp force trauma to the face and neck”.
Coroner David T Bowen released her body to her family so they can make arrangements for her funeral.
A full inquest has been adjourned until 3rd April, to give police enough time to work out exactly what happened.
The coroner said the date could change though, and he’ll be reviewing the progress of the case.
