Appeal After Two Men Die In Crash
Police are appealing for information following a road traffic collision near Watford in the early hours of Monday morning which has killed two men.
Officers were called to the southbound junction of the M1 between Junctions 5 and 4, at 2.40am following reports of a collision involving two black BMWs.
The driver and rear seat passenger of one of the cars died at the scene. Both men are from East London and are aged 22 and 24 years old. Two other passengers of this vehicle, who are both men, suffered serious injuries and were taken to a hospital in London.
The four men in the second car were also injured and taken to hospital.
Inspector Paul Campbell, from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Roads Policing Unit, who is investigating the collision, said: “This was a devastating collision which has sadly resulted in two men losing their lives and others being seriously injured”
“Our investigation into the cause of this collision will be in – depth and will take a considerable amount of time. What we do know is that both of the vehicles involved – the two BMWs have been travelling a number of seconds apart and have, for reasons unknown at this time, separately lost control before eventually colliding with each other. A number of contributory factors need to be carefully considered to piece together the precise events.”
“A number of witnesses have already been spoken to and it is proving important for the investigation to not only piece together the immediate circumstances of the collision but also the events leading up to this tragic incident.”
“I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision taking place, or who may have seen either of the BMWs prior to the collision, and has not come forward or been spoken to by police, to contact us as a matter of urgency. Any information you may have at all could greatly assist our investigation”
“I am particularly keen to speak with a driver in a small white car who had stopped towards the front of the queue of traffic behind the collision scene but whose details were not taken at the time by officers. I would urge this person to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
“Finally, I would like to thank the media for the invaluable assistance they have given us to date but would ask you to be mindful that the families who have been involved in this tragedy have asked for time to grieve as they come to terms with events – thank you”
