CCTV Issued After Borehamwood Card Fraud
Police investigating the theft of a bank card and subsequent fraudulent use of the card are releasing images of two men they wish to speak to as part of the investigation.
The victim, a 90 year-old man from Borehamwood, had his bank card stolen by the offender(s) at some point on, or prior to, Tuesday, November 5.
The offender(s) made a number of purchases using the card in stores in London, including in Palmers Green, Chingford and Ilford.
Police wish to speak to the two men pictured as it is possible they witnessed the theft or fraudulent transactions or have information that could assist the investigation.
If anyone recognises the men, or if they recognise themselves, they should contact Hertfordshire Constabulary’s non-emergency number 101, citing crime reference J1/13/3526. Alternatively call Crimestoppers, the independent charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
To help protect yourself from credit and debit card fraud, Hertfordshire Constabulary would recommended that people adhere to the following advice:
NEVER disclose your PIN to anyone.
Always look around you when approaching and using the cash point, if you see anyone acting suspiciously call the police or a bank official.
If you think a cash machine has been tampered with, call the police immediately and inform the bank.
Where possible, use a cash machine inside a bank or building society.
When entering your PIN, use your spare hand and your body to shield the number from prying eyes or hidden cameras. If you think someone has seen your PIN you can change it at a cash machine or by contacting your bank.
If you think someone has learned your PIN you can change it at any cash machine.
Try not to let your card out of your sight when making a transaction. Most retailers let you put your card into the chip and PIN terminal yourself, without having to hand it over.
