A fire broke out in a Hatfield nursery earlier this morning (Friday, May 20).
The East of England Ambulance Service were alerted to a report of a fire in Rainbow House Nursery in Tamblings Way Hatfield shortly before 10am.
Ambulance crews from Hertford, Stevenage and Welwyn Garden City attended the scene. Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson, who attended the scene said:
“A man in his 20s was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation before he was taken to the QE11 Hospital in Welwyn Garden City. Approximately 30 children were evacuated from the nursery to a place of safety and they were not injured. A man, woman and a child who live in flats above the nursery were also checked over by paramedics but did not require to go to hospital.”
Gary added: “The fire and police done a magnificent job evacuating the nursery and surrounding properties prior to our arrival and all three emergency services worked extremely well together.”
