Couple Attacked In Own Home
'Absolutely terrifying' that's how a Hemel Hempstead grandmother has described being attacked in her own home.
Christine Fordham was left needing 10 stitches after being beaten up by two men back on the 16th of December.
Her and her partner Jo Burke answered a knock at the door at their home in Dunlin Road to two men who then forced their way in.
Jo said: 'Before I knew it, two strange men had pushed their way through my front door, into my home and began attacking us. One of the men hit me in my eye straight away, so I couldn't see anything. I then became aware that the other man was attacking Christine; they were punching and kicking both of us, demanding we hand over any money we had.
Christine said: 'One of the men began kicking and punching me and then hit me on the back of the head with a hard object.
'They were demanding we hand over any money, but weren't giving me a chance to actually go and get the money. One of the men then put something to my head and threatened to shoot me. I'm not sure if they actually had a gun on them.'
Once Christine had handed over a sum of money and Jo's mobile phone to the intruders left the house on foot.
Jo then ran to a neighbour's house to raise the alarm and get an ambulance for them both.
Christine suffered bruises to her face and had to have 10 stitches at the back of her head. Jo ended up with a fractured cheekbone and bruising to his head and chest. They both spent the night at Watford General hospital as a precaution.
Christine said: 'I feel extremely traumatised by what has happened and find myself bursting into tears at random moments since the attack. 'I have lived in the area for over 30 years; everyone is friendly here and we have always felt very safe. I can't believe that two young men would attack a clearly defenceless couple in such a brutal and callous way. If anyone saw anything that night, please contact the police and if anyone out there knows who could be responsible, please report them as they do not deserve your protection.'
Jo added: 'I cannot think who in their right minds would burst in on an older couple in this manner and attack them. How would they feel if someone did that to their grandparents? These people are scum as far as I am concerned. If anyone saw or heard anything that day or if you think you know who is responsible, please contact police.'
The police are appealing for witnesses and are asking people to call the non-emergency 101 number.
