Thousands of Hertfordshire residents regularly travel on trains in and around the county, with over 300,000 people using train services to commute to London each week.
The railway is an important mode of transport for Hertfordshire’s residents, which is why Hertfordshire County Council would like your input in to the county’s Rail Strategy.
An eight-week public consultation into the strategy closes today, Tuesday 4 August.
The strategy is designed to ensure that the railway can support Hertfordshire and its aspirations into the future. It does this by identifying investment priorities for the next 15 to 20 years and beyond, which the county council will work to secure.
The Rail Strategy considers each of the county’s rail corridors, while at the same time developing an overall coordinated strategy that addresses network-wide topics, such as travel from east to west and station access.
Derrick Ashley, Cabinet Member for Environment, Planning & Transport, said: "It’s important that we look ahead and consider what’s best for Hertfordshire’s rail users for the next 15 to 20 years and beyond. While the county council does not manage the railway or make investment decisions on it, the draft Rail Strategy is intended to influence the rail industry to achieve our priorities and fulfil the future needs of the railway in the county.”
