A Level Results Time!
19 August 2010, 06:00
It’s A Level results today and thousands of teenagers across our region will find out whether or not they have got into their preferred university.
But for those of you who didn’t get the results you expected, there’s no need to panic, help is at hand.
Ross Renton is the Head of Recruitment and Access at the University of Hertfordshire. He’s been telling Heart:
“If you didn’t get into your course there are things you can do. You can take a gap year or, what we think is really important, is get some work experience, whether doing that paid or unpaid. Whatever you end up doing make the most of it and make sure it will help you if you want to enter a course later on, to enrich your skills.
“There’s lots of advice and support out there for students who haven’t quite made the grade and that can be their tutor or the Connexions service. Big thing – don’t rush in to making a discussion. Think through the process you did when you did the application because you are going to be spending three or four years at the university. It’s got to be the right choice.”
This year more than others it’s become even harder to get a place at university with applications up 11.6% this year.
According to the University of Hertfordshire applications there have increase by 50% compared to two years before.
It does mean that a record number of young people will miss out on a place this year and with a limited number of places available for clearing, you need to make you have all the right information.
