Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Police Dog Storm and his handler PC Mark Atkinson scooped the National Obedience trophy at this year's National Police Dog Trials over the weekend, (April 17).
The National Trials, which were held in Ipswich, see the country's most highly skilled and experienced dog handlers and dogs from police forces across the UK competing for a number of awards.
In their category, Storm and PC Atkinson were competing against 22 other dogs from across the UK who had qualified in the regional trials in March.
To win the award Storm and his handler had to perform a number of activities that police dogs perform including searching woodland for stolen items, searching for hidden people and detaining criminals. They also had to demonstrate the ability to tackle various obstacles such as a 6ft high fence and a 9ft long jump.
PC Atkinson said: "Storm won the award in his category as he demonstrated the best obedience towards me (his handler) in a variety of exercises, particularly agility, heelwork and recall. He is extremely responsive to my commands and always does as he is asked first time with a wagging tail."
