Police Renew Appeal After Shooting

7 January 2011, 11:58

Police are still trying to find a robber who shot a 70 year old man at a newsagent's in Watford.

The robber demanded money from the man and a woman member of staff, before shooting the man. He ran from the scene empty handed.

The victim suffered injuries to his abdomen and was taken to hospital where he remains.

It happened at Kays in St Albans Road at five past seven in the morning of Thursday, December 30.

The man who fired the gun is described as white, being aged between 14 and 30 and being between 5ft 4ins and 6ft tall. He was wearing a woollen navy blue hat and had a white scarf across his nose and dark clothing.

Detective Inspector Tim Redfearn from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit is investigating and said: "Officers have spoken to 93 people today as part of our ongoing inquiries to track down the offender.

"This was a particularly nasty crime. The offender shot a man and made off with nothing and has left his victim seriously ill. I am confident someone knows who did this and I would ask them not to give them any protection but to make contact with the police or Crimestoppers anonymously with information.

"It is also vital that we speak with anyone who has any information about what happened or who was in the area at the time to contact police. You may think what you have seen is not important but let us know so we can make that decision."
