Fatal Fire "Accidental"
Reward Issued After Pensioner Threatened
A reward of up to £1,000 is available after an elderly Radlett man was threatened and attacked in his home.
The reward is being offered by the independent charity Crimestoppers for information leading to the arrest and charge of the three men who pushed their way in to his home last month.
The incident took place between 8.10pm and 8.30pm on Thursday June 2nd at a house on Phillimore Place in Radlett. A man, in his 90s, heard a noise at his back door, so asked who was there and, when he heard no answer, went to open the door. Three male offenders then came through the door and threatened him, grabbing his wrist. After searching his house, they realised he was not the person they were looking for and they had the wrong house, so left. The man was unharmed.
The man, who does not wish to be identified, said: “I have been through the war and had knives pulled on me before, but you don’t expect it in peace time, in your own home! I keep seeing them barging through the door at me and I now have trouble sleeping. This incident is on my mind the whole time. Because of this incident I have had to leave my house where I have lived for 60 years and where I raised my children. I think that’s disgraceful.”
Ann Scott, Eastern Regional Manager for Crimestoppers has been telling Heart: “Although no possessions were taken, this incident has robbed this man of feeling safe in his own home. Please come forward to the independent charity Crimestoppers so this awful crime can be solved. We do not ask for your name and no call is traced or recorded. You won’t have to give a statement, speak to the police or go to court – we only want to know what you know, not who you are. In the 23 years that Crimestoppers has been running we have never broken our anonymity promise.”
She added: “Did someone display unusual behaviour that day? Has someone confessed to being involved? Perhaps someone witnessed the event or saw suspicious activity in the area? Crimestoppers wants to receive any information no matter how insignificant it may seem”.
The three suspects are described as white men, aged 18 to 23 and ranging from 5ft 8ins to 6ft tall. They were wearing grey or dark-coloured tracksuits with hoods.
Information can also be given anonymously through the Crimestoppers website at www.crimestoppers-uk.org or on 0800 555111 but rewards cannot be claimed for information given online and only information given to Crimestoppers that leads to a charge is eligible for the reward.
