A man has been airlifted to hospital with a suspected serious head injury after a tree fell on him in Watford.

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) received a call at 1.23pm today (9th April) to an address off Bucknalls Lane.

It is understood that the patient, who is in his 40s, was working to fell a mature tree when the accident happened.

A paramedic in a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance crew, ambulance officer and the Herts Air Ambulance attended.

The man had suffered a head injury, but was not trapped by the falling tree.

He was taken to the Royal London Hospital for further treatment by the air ambulance.

Colin Charlton, EEAST Resilience Manager for Hertfordshire, who attended the scene said:

"We suspected he'd suffered a serious head injury, which is why he was taken to a major trauma centre. We were supported by fire and police as it was not known whether he was trapped to begin with."
