Corsham murder investigation

Police have named a man who died following an incident in Rudloe, Corsham.

Police were called to the centre of Rudloe shortly after 6:45pm on Sunday, where paramedics were attending reports of an unconscious man.

A local man was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol with head injuries. Unfortunately he died a short time later.

Formal identification has now taken place and police have confirmed that the deceased man was 57 year old Michael Walsh from Methuen Way, Corsham.

Following his death Michael’s family have said:

"Our family have lost a much loved husband, father and grandfather. We are all in deep shock and would greatly respect privacy at this sad time."

Following enquiries made at the scene a 60 year old local man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was taken to Melksham police station where he currently remains in custody after being granted a 36 hour extension at Chippenham Magistrates Court earlier this morning.

A post mortem examination is due to take place later this afternoon, Tuesday 8th March 2011.
