Auction raises cash for African rhinos

A huge art exhibition that was set up this summer in Chester is being auctioned off on Tuesday night to raise money for charity.

The fibreglass Rhinos from Rhino Mania will raise cash for a project in Africa to help the endangered animal survive in the wild.

75% of the proceeds will go to Chester Zoo's Black Rhino Conservation in East Africa.

Scott Wilson is conservation officer at Chester Zoo and said:

"The Eastern Black Rhino we work with is down to around 500 in the wild but recently poaching has reached new heights and is at very high levels so that whole population is very much at threat.

"The more money we get the more we can do in the field to protect rhinos.  We will have more rangers to protect them and the more equipment they have the more rhinos we can protect."
