Hole appears near Flintshire School

An investigation is underway to find out why a huge hole suddenly appeared on land near a Flintshire primary school

The hole appeared on common land in Rhes-y-cae on Sunday evening and is seven meters wide, three metres deep and is thought to be part of an old mine shaft.

A fence has been built round it to stop people and sheep falling in.

Experts will come and examine it as soon as possible.

Edwin Christmas, from the Grosvenor Estate, who own the land said:

"We'd like to reassure people in Rhes-y-cae that we are working to resolve this as soon as possible. We have secured the site and would ask people to stay away while the works continue."
