Man jailed for serious sex assualt

A man has been jailed for ten years today for a serious sex assault on a women in Chester city centre last July.

22 year  Mark Caunce from Buckley, North Wales pleaded guilty half way through a trial that  began at Chester Crown Court in January this year.

The Court heard how Caunce preyed on his victim, introducing himself to her in the street and walking her to a secluded alleyway before assaulting her.

Passing sentence today at Manchester Crown Court, Judge Woodward says:

"What you have done can never be underestimated. This will never go away and she will live with this for  the rest of her life."

He Continued:

"This woman was engaged in a successful career and has not been able to work since. This is an indication of the
damaging experience. She is physically, psychologically and emotionally traumatised"

Detective Inspector Jo Miller of Cheshire's Major Investigation  Team who led the investigation says:

"Mark Caunce had admitted his guilt to one of the most violent crimes. He viciously attacked his victim, preying on her vulnerability through drink and her fragile stature, overcoming her to cause her very serious injury. I ask that  women
who are on a night out  take responsibility for their own personal  safety and welfare and  drink alcohol responsibly.
