Sexual assault in Chester

Women are being urged to take extra care, especially when walking alone at night.

At 7.30pm on Saturday (2nd October) a young woman was walking home from Chester City Centre along Lache Lane, when she was approached by a man riding a bicycle.  He asked her for a light for a cigarette and the woman handed him a lighter and the man cycled off.

The victim continued walking along Lache Lane towards the entrance to Westminster Park.  She then saw the same man again with a larger group of youths – some on bicycles.

The woman tried to walk around the group to avoid them and she was approached by the same man who pushed her towards the entrance to the park.

She then entered the park intending to exit on the far side onto Hough Green.  The man followed her into the park and pushed her against a gate and she was subjected to a serious sexual assault.  The man then fled the scene towards Lache Lane.

The offender is described as white, 6ft tall, wearing a black hooded top and white trainers.  He had a Liverpool accent.

Anyone with any information is urged to call DC Helen Tennyson on 0845 458 0000 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
