Four separate instances of illegal fly-tipping in the same place in a quiet country lane just outside Bideford over the last month have cost Torridge council tax payers hundreds of pounds.
Scratchyface Lane, off Bowden Green in Bideford, has been used as an illegal dumping ground for all sorts of green waste, as well as some household and building waste, and on two occasions the piles dumped were so large that the lane was completely blocked.
Following initial complaints from a member of the public, all of the waste was cleared by the council but a few days later a second similar load was dumped close by. This was again cleared but two more loads subsequently appeared over the next couple of weeks.
Green waste like this that has been produced domestically from a garden can be disposed of at recycling centres free of charge. If you are employing someone to do your gardening work please ensure that they are legitimate professionals who will deal with your waste responsibly.
If you have seen anything or know of anyone who may have been using Scratchyface Lane as their own personal dumping ground, please contact the Waste Management Department at Torridge District Council in confidence on 01237 428734 or 428890.
Alternatively, call the Grime Busters hotline on 0800 1422 442.
