Queen Of British Soul To Switch On Lights

Barnstaple is set to take centre stage with a Christmas Light Switch on that will rival any of its competitors across the southwest.

The headline act is none other than the Queen of British Soul, Beverley Knight! Noted for her staggering live performances which have gained her a legion of fans from David Bowie to Prince, Take That to Jamiroquai, she recently wowed a 1 billion viewing audience with an outstanding rendition of the song, 'I Am What I Am' at the London 2012 Paralympics Opening Ceremony.

Craig Bulley, Barnstaple Town Centre Manager and one of the organisers of the light switch on said: "Beverley has been one of the UK's most consistent artists of the past 15 years and has scored several top 10 albums.

"She has also sold over a million albums in the UK along the way, including four gold albums - her latest being the critically acclaimed 'Soul UK'.

"We are really excited that she is coming to Barnstaple as we know people are going to love her and really enjoy the show we have organised for them."

This year's Christmas Light Switch on will take place on Thursday evening, 22nd November and is organised by Barnstaple Town Centre Management in partnership with BID Barnstaple.

The date has been changed from a Sunday to a Thursday in response to retailers' wishes to stage the event on what will be the first of the late night shopping nights.

The wonderfully soulful Beverley Knight is a top class act that is guaranteed to put Barnstaple well and truly on the map as the place to be for music, entertainment and a shopping experience this Christmas!

Further details of the Switch On day and other Christmas events will be announced shortly.
