The 44-year-old woman was assaulted some time shortly after 5am when she and the man walked through Hedgemead Park. She managed to break free and run to safety. She suffered minor injuries but is said to be severely shocked.

The attacker has been described as being a light-skinned black man, about 6ft tall, of athletic build, clean shaven with a shaved head.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Bath CID on 0845 456 7000.

Police are also advising women to take normal sensible safety precautions when they are out late at night in the city centre. They say incidents such as this are rare, but women should take care about meeting strangers.
