Plans for Bedford's Station Quarter have been formally submitted by Bedford Borough Council.

Now the public are being asked for their views in a consultation.

Their plan sets out redevelopment of the area around the old Focus DIY store and along Ashburnham Road. It includes:

  • A new station building
  • Up to 99 new homes
  • Offices and a hotel
  • Retail space
  • Three multi-storey car parks
  • Other associated development and infrastructure.

John Nicholson, Chairman of the Station Area Working Party said: "Most of the north side of the station up to the Bromham Road bridge will be taken up by car parking.  South of the station they've got plans for an office block with a ten storey tower.  They've also got plans for a bus and rail interchange to be slotted in too.

"We're having a meeting of the Ashburnham Road residents on Tuesday 18th at 7.30pm in the small hall at the Ravi Dass Centre.  We're quite prepared for anybody who's interested to come along and we'll try to answer their questions."
