Police are trying to find the man who tried to grab a baby from its' mum's hold.
The mother was watering the plants in her front garden in Bedford Road at 9.30am on Wednesday morning. She had a watering can in one hand and was holding her 18 month-old baby with her other arm.
She saw a man walking along the pavement near her house, which is not far from the Bangla shop on the corner of Whitbread Avenue, and he smiled at the baby, who smiled back.
The man then reached out and tried to take the baby from her. She held on and retreated inside her house and shut the door. She shouted at the man, who then carried on walking towards Bedford.
The man is described as being white, aged about 35-40, 5ft 10ins-6ft tall, dressed in dark trousers, a hi-visibility jacket, red baseball cap and carrying a black rucsack over both shoulders.
It's unclear what prompted the man's actions but Det Con Chris Avery at Greyfriars CID, would like to hear from anyone who saw a man of this description on Bedford Road on Wednesday morning, or knows who he is.
