16-year-old Arrested Over Baby Death

A 16 year old girl's been arrested after a baby's body was found at Fleet train station.

The teenager's now been let out on bail for six weeks while police carry on investigating.

The newborn girl was discovered at around 11.20am on Wednesday, May 26, by a cleaner who was emptying bins near to the southbound platform at Fleet train station.
An ambulance was called but the child was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was taken to hospital and was found to have been injured.

The baby's body was wrapped up and hidden inside a yellow Morrison's reusable carrier bag.
Following a media appeal, the baby's teenage mother came forward last Friday (May 28th) for medical help.
Detectives are continuing to investigate this tragic case and are working closely with the girl and her family to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.
Detective Superintendent Jason Hogg, from the Major Crime department, said: “This is an extremely difficult case for everyone involved and we would ask people to respect this family’s privacy as they come to terms with what has happened.”
