Avon and Somerset: Free Driver Safety Courses

Avon and Somerset Police are offering free driver safety workshops at various locations across the force area during 2014.

The 2 hour sessions will focus on the 'fatal four' elements involved in accidents - excessive or inappropriate speed, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, not wearing a seat belt and driver distractions like mobiles.

They are open to any driver but Avon and Somerset are telling Heart they are especially keen to get 17-24 year olds to sign up as people from this age group make up one third of serious injuries and deaths.

Superintendent Ian Smith tells Heart: "This course is aimed at all drivers but we particularly welcome 17 to 24 year olds....Get on to the course, it's free, we've 6 thousand places...first come first served and I think we can really save a life this year."
